This black and white illustration is from the 1896 James Nisbet & Co. Reprint Depicting Thomas delivering The Pilgrim's Progess to Ellen, while Nancy looks on. The image is sharper and much clearer in print, with darker lines. This may be because it is a newer and better cared for edition.

This black and white illustration from the 1896 James Nisbet & Co. Reprint Depicting Ellen reading to her silent grandmother, at the back of the kitchen stairs. The room is lighter, compared to the stairwell, and the two are swathed in light. Both are smiling, as Ellen reads aloud "The Joyful News" and Grandma knits.

This 4-colored illustration from page 254a of the 1887 James Nisbet & Co. "Golden Ladder Series, New Edition" Reprint. The image depicts Ellen reading to her Grandma in the kitchen, but the shadowed stairs. Ellen is dressed in blue with a red petticoat. Grandma is wearing blue and red, as well as a white apron. Grandma knits, smiling, as Ellen reads aloud "The Joyful News".

This depicts a woman gathering flower, dressed in a white Roman-esque stola, carrying a bouqet of wildflowers in one hand, and picking more flowers with her other. Hair is pulled bakc, but is worn down. Behind her is a darker background of trees and wild grass. She is framed by a Roman styled border, laurel leaves and filigre surrounding the bottom, and festooned banner surrounding the books title, author and edition information in red script above her head. The publisher information below her in black script, surrounded by filigree.

She is dress in a long dress, her hair is pulled up and surrounded by flowers in the background. Beneath her feet is a second banner, with the publisher's information, also typed in red. The border is gray, with white dots lined along the center of the border. The border with within the second banner is a continuous, gray scallop shape.
