Ellen rides side-saddle as she looks down at Sharp. Alice, wearing a long dress and bonnet, looks at Ellen and places her hand on her dress as if to steady her. Ellen's hair flows behind her and Sharp stands with his front leg raised, giving a sense of movement to the illustration.
