This is the back cover of the 1853 H.G. Bohn Reprint, Version 2. It is the same design as the front cover. It is a faded navy blue with a double ruled border along the outside, and another single border surrounding blue curlicue designs in the middle of the cover. A cross seems to be in the center of the cover, inside the designs.

George Putnam and Co. used this brown, cloth-covered binding for their first illustrated edition of The Wide Wide World, released in 1853. The focus of the back cover is the central theme of the gilt heart encased in a large diamond shape frame. Surrounding this focal point are flowers in each of the four corners.

This is the back cover of the 1852 T. Nelson & Sons reprint, version 1. The back is intact, with only a small stain on the bottom left corner. The binding used is a red grain wave and it has been decoratively stamped without color.
