Description
This black and white illustration, appearing on page 149 of the 1896 Hodder and Stoughton reprint, depicts Alice finding Ellen on the Cat's Back. Alice stands over Ellen, reaching down to comfort her as Ellen sits crying into her hand, leaning against the rock face of the Cat's Back. Alice's formal attire provides contrast to Ellen's simple dress and apron. Several trees stand around the path and stick out from the rock face.
