George Palmer Putnam included this Table of Contents in the second volume of their 1851 edition of The Wide, Wide World. This page is the first page of the Table of Contents for this edition and lists the first 24 chapters with the corresponding titles and page numbers.

George Palmer Putnam used this title page for the completed works in one volume of the 1853 edition of The Wide, Wide World. This title page features the name of the novel, author, and publisher. This edition used Susan Warner's pen name Elizabeth Wetherell.  It contains the epigraph:

"Here at the portal thou dost stand,

      And with thy little hand

Though openest the mysterious gate,

      Into the future's undiscovered land

      I see its valves expand,

As at the touch of FATE!

Into those realms of Love and Hate.

                                     LONGFELLOW."

This is the title page to the second volume of the 1851 George P. Putnam first edition, version three. The title is printed in the upper quarter of the page with a period. The author's name, Elizabeth Wetherell, is printed in the center of the page with a period, followed by an inscription taken from the Henry Wadsworth Longfellow poem, "To a Child." Volume II is printed below this inscription, and the address of George Putnam is listed as, "155 Broadway, New York."

This is the recto of the front flyleaf from the 1851 George Palmer Putnam First Edition, Volume 2. The light brown marks across the page are evidence of foxing.

George Palmer Putnam used this inside front cover pastedown for the 1851 1st edition Vol. 2. This edition of the novel features an inscription by a former owner that reads "1903."
