This black and white illustration on page 517 of the 1903 J.B. Lippincott Co. "New Edition" reprint, depicts Ellen sharing tea with Mr. Lindsay in Edinburgh. In the illustration, Ellen is sitting in a decorated armchair at the table with Mr. Lindsay. On the table is a crystal wine decanter, and two small wine glasses. Mr. Lindsay's gaze is upon Ellen, while her eyes are leveled at the wine decanter. In her right hand she holds a biscuit that she has picked up from a small plate in her lap. This illustration first appeared on page 517, of the 1892 Lippincott Co. "New Edition" reprint (See 9CIA).

"New Edition" Reprint, depicts Ellen sitting slightly removed from a little table and looking outside a very large window over the estate. Her posture is slightly hunched, as if to convey that she is carrying a large, emotional burden. Her expression is wistful as she contemplates and compares her new life with the Lindsay's with her life in America. This illustration first appeared on page 528, of the 1892 J. B. Lippincott Co. "New Edition" Reprint (see 9CIA).

In the illustration, Ellen and John are sitting on a sofa. Ellen's white dress is a stark contrast to John's dark suit. Ellen is resting her head on John's shoulder and John resting one of his hands on hers and his arm is around her shoulders. This illustration was first used on page 560 of the 1892 J.B. Lippincott Co. "New Edition" reprint (see 9CIA).
