Back Cover of Volume 1 of the 1853 G.P. Putnam & Co. "Illustrated Edition" Reprint
George Putnam and Co. used this brown, cloth-covered binding for their first illustrated edition of The Wide Wide World, released in 1853. The focus of the cover is the central theme of the gilt heart encased in a large diamond shape frame. Surrounding this focal point are flowers in each of the four corners. The spine is hollow backed and printed in gilt, reading the title and the word ILLUSTRATIONS, all in capital letters.

Back Cover of Volume 2 of the 1851 George P. Putnam First Edition
This is the back cover of volume 2 of the 1851 George P. Putnam First Edition. It is a faded green cover with a thick border and curlicues inside the border. Putnam's publisher's mark is in the center. The back cover is the same as the front cover, as well as the same cover as the first volume.
