This 1852 T. Nelson & Sons reprint is covered with a blue wave grain cloth (labeled Wav7 by the Library Company of Philadelphia). The front and back covers have ornate, stamped borders. The front cover has a gilt-stamped image of a boy in Huck Finn-style clothing, prototypically American, fishing, with a house in the background. The title and author's name are gilt-stamped in Birch font. The spine The title and author's name are repeated on the spine, and it has a gilt-stamped image of Alice and Ellen carrying supplies up the mountain. An arabesque border appears at the top and bottom of the spine.

This is the full cover of the 1853 T. Nelson & Sons "Nelson's Library for Travellers and the Fireside" Reprint. The cover is red. On the front the publisher's collection is listed first with the title of the book and author below. The publisher is listed at the bottom beneath an illustration of Ellen and the Brownie.

This 1892 J.B. Lippincott Co. “New Edition” Reprint is covered with a cream-yellow rib grain (labeled Rib5 by Library Company Conservation Dept.). The front cover has a continuous ruled border around the cover’s image and book title. On the front, the cover title The Wide Wide World is centered towards the top and filled with a burgundy-brown. Below is an illustration surrounded by a similar decorative border in a burgundy-brown with a pointillé pattern. This illustration depicts Ellen standing in front of a wooden stick-style fence, with patches of grass, and holding a picnic basket. She is wearing a bonnet and a dress. On the spine, The Wide Wide World is written in burgundy-brown text above a rule, and below is an image resembling the same design on the cover. J.B. Lippincott Company is written at the bottom of the spine and below the same ruled border on the cover. The bottom of the spine is frayed.

This black and white illustration appearing on page 438, of the 1892 J.B. Lippincott "New Edition", depicts Alice's death bed, with Ellen weeping next to her. Alice's face is pale and serene, her eyes are open, and her right hand is lifted up as if to comfort Ellen. Ellen holds her left hand, while she covers her grief-stricken, shadowed face with her right hand.

This black and white illustration appearing on page 467, of the 1892 J.B. Lippincott "New Edition", depicts Ellen, Mrs. Forbes, and Mrs. Blockson sitting together in a circle, in front of a window. Ellen sits on the right side next to a table, where her hand hovers over an open book from which she had been reading aloud. Mrs. Forbes wears a white bonnet and a dark gown, and is leaning attentively towards Ellen with folded hands.

This black and white illustration on page 497, of the 1892 J.B. Lippincott Co. "New Edition" reprint, depicts Ellen saying goodbye to Mr. Humphreys. In the illustration, Ellen is kneeling before a sitting Mr. Humphreys. They are clasping hands and Mr. Humphreys has his other hand on Ellen's shoulder and Ellen is resting a hand on his suit jacket.
