This illustration, appearing on page 296d of Volume One of the 1888 J.B. Lippincott Co. reprint, depicts Ellen reading to Grandma in front of the hearth. Grandma has her knitting in her lap but appears to be ignoring it and is instead watching Ellen. Ellen is sitting on a small stool in front of her, leaning over The Bible laying across her lap. Beneath the illustration, in a cursive script, is the name of the artist, Frederick Dielman, and the line "As soon as she was set free Ellen brought her Bible," from page 297 of the text. At the very bottom of the page, in the same script, is the title of the book along with the volume and page number.

This full-color illustration, found on page 284b of the [1907] Collins' Clear-Type Press reprint, depicts Ellen confronting the children playing at the Marshman's. In the illustration, Ellen is standing before the children with her arms behind her back. A caption below the illustration reads, "You're a real wicked boy."

This black and white illustration on page 282 of the J.B. Lippincott Co. "New Edition" reprint shows Alice, Ellen, and John on a sleigh ride. The three are seated in the sleigh, pulled by a horse. The house is in the background. The scene is set in winter.

This is the illustration on page 247a of the 1853 G. Routledge and Co. Reprint depicting the sleigh Ride to the Marshman’s. This black and white illustration depicts John holding Ellen in order to put her into the sleigh pulled by a white horse. Alice and two others are standing to the side talking, while Ellen and John are in the middle of the illustration. The caption reads, “Starting with the Sleigh-P. 247.”

This black and white illustration, appearing on page 274a of the 1853 G. Routledge & Co. reprint, depicts Ellen, Alice, and John about to get on the sleigh that will take them to the Marshman's for Christmas. John is carrying Ellen to put her in the sleigh, with Alice and Margery talking behind them. The sleigh's driver stands waiting in the background. Captain Parry(?) appears prepared to jump into the sleigh, and the horse Prince Charlie is hitched to the sleigh. A caption below the illustration reads, "Starting with the Sleigh," referencing the scene from page 274 of the novel. The trees around the sleigh give a pleasant natural frame to the scene. The name of the illustrator, Dalziel, is inscribed in the lower-left corner of the illustration.
