In the title page of James Nisbet & Co.'s 1896 edition of the novel, the title is printed in the page's top quarter followed by a period. The author's name is not included, rather represented by a mention of three separate works. An inscription taken from Henry Wadsworth Longfellow's poem, "To a Child," appears in the page's middle. The novel is listed as an edition with illustrations. James Nisbet & Co.'s address is listed as, "London, 21, Berners Street."

This black and white illustration is from the 1896 James Nisbet & Co. Reprint Depicting Thomas delivering The Pilgrim's Progess to Ellen, while Nancy looks on. The image is sharper and much clearer in print, with darker lines. This may be because it is a newer and better cared for edition.

This black and white illustration, appearing on page 118a of the [1896] James Nisbet & Co. reprint, depicts Nancy finding Ellen at the brook. Ellen sits next to the water with her hands in her lap as Nancy stands behind Ellen looking down at her. A line of trees extends across the background of the illustration and several bushes surround Ellen and Nancy. A caption below the illustration reads "The Charmed Spot," reflecting the gentleness and stillness conveyed in the illustration as Ellen sits quietly by the brook.

This black and white illustration, appearing as the frontispiece to the [1896] James Nisbet & Co. reprint, depicts Ellen riding Alice's horse, Sharp, as Alice walks alongside her on their way to Carra-carra. An open valley with several trees and mountains in the distance extends behind them. Ellen rides side-saddle and raises her finger as if she is speaking as Alice looks up at her. Alice's hair extends behind her as if being blown by the wind, establishing a sense of movement in the illustration. This illustration first appeared in the 1853 James Nisbet and Co. "New Edition" (see 77CIA).
