A caption below the illustration quotes a sentence from page 350 and reads, "Always a basket for flowers went along." In the illustration, Mr. Van Brunt and Ellen walk side by side as they enter the woods. Mr. Van Brunt holds an ax over his shoulder as he smiles down at Ellen. Ellen carries a basket over her arm and several flowers in her hand as she looks up at Mr. Van Brunt. They are surrounded by trees and other foliage. In the background are rolling hills with a small house set atop one of the hills.
