This full-color illustration, found on page 156b of the [1907] Collins' Clear-Type Press reprint, depicts Ellen and Alice making cakes. In the illustration, Ellen, dressed in red, and Alice, dressed in pink and white, stand in Alice's kitchen before the baking table; there is a sideboard with plates behind them. Ellen looks at Captain Parry with wide eyes as Alice points a rolling pin at the cat who is putting his paw on one of the cakes. A caption below the illustration reads, "Take him off! I can't touch him."

This color plate is from the [1923] Nelson&Sons, Ltd. Reprint, depicts Alice comforting Ellen after the loss of her letter. Alice sits in a chair, dressed in a dark dress, holding Ellen's face close to her's. Ellen is dressed in a green dress, her face somber. Both are at eye level. An inscription below the illustration says, "'My poor child!' Was Alice's first expression." The scene depicted in this illustration appears on page 217 of the novel.

This full color plate from the 1923 Nelson&sons, Ltd. Reprint, depicts a scene on page 288, where Ellen and Ellen Chauncey have come down on Christmas morning, examining their stockings that hang upon the high back of an armchair. Both girls are dressed in their nightgowns and caps, with the hair peeking through, their faces smiling.

This full-color plate on Page 32b of the [1918] Thomas Nelson & Sons, Ltd. Abridged Reprint depicts Alice comforting a sad Ellen, over the loss of her letter. Alice is dressed dark blue, sitting on a chair, so that she may be at eye level of Ellen, who is dressed in light yellow. Alice is holding Ellen's face closer to hers.

In the illustration, George Marshman enters the door in a brown suit hold a small horn. John is behind him in a top hat and dark brown jacket. Ellen Chauncey is at forefront in a blue dress, white stockings, and black flats. Ellen is in a green dress standing beside George and touching his arm. Three other girls stand behind Ellen Chauncey, looking the men who arrived.
