This frontispiece from the second volume of the 1853 James Nisbet, Hamilton, Adams & Co "New Edition" Reprint, is a black and white image, that has been damaged by yellowing mildew. This image depicts a scene on page 47, of Ellen receiving a letter from the letter carrier, who is on horseback. Ellen stands on a raised boulder, her hand outstretched to take the letter. There are some trees surrounding her, and the path to the farm frames the carrier.

This is the full cover of the [1853] Clarke, Beeton, & Co. reprint, version 1. The cover is faded and some of the title is illegible. At the top of the cover reads the price of the book while below the title is given amidst a framework of greenery which houses an illustration of Ellen, Ellen's Mother, and Ellen's father. Beneath the illustration is the publication city and publisher. The back cover is no longer attached to the book.

This 1867 Milner & Sowerby "Wide, Wide World Library" Reprint is covered in brown leather. The front and back covers have a blind-stamped border. There is a gilt "Wide, Wide World Library" globe logo on the front cover. The spine has an ornate black and gilt design.

This is the full cover of the [1874] William Nicholson & Sons, S.D. Ewins & Co. Reprint. It shows wear from age, as the edges of the covers are fraying and the covers are separated from the spine. The spine has blue and gold ends.
