Volume 2 of the 1851 George P. Putnam is covered with a blue leather grain embossed buckram (labeled Lea5 by the Library Company of Philadelphia). The front and back covers have an arabesque border. Both front and back panels have a publisher's mark, a scroll work "P." The title is gilt-stamped at the top of the spine; "Putnam" is gilt-stamped at the bottom edge of the spine.

This is the full cover of volume 1 of the 1852 Sampson Low Reprint. It is bright blue with embossed borders and floral and curlicue designs on the corners of the front and back. The title is written on the spine in gilded gold letters, along with the volume and publishing information. Vines and flowers wrap around the letters, and World is written in blue inside a gold globe.

This full cover of Volume 1 of the 1852 James Nisbet, Sampson Low, Hamilton Adams & Co. second edition is covered in a bright blue wave grain cloth (labeled Wav2 by the Library Company of Philadelphia). Front and back covers include stamped arabesque corner borders. The title is gilt-stamped and centered on the front cover and again at the top of the spine. The font is decorated with tiny vines and leaves. The edges show minor wear.

The cover is mostly intact with slight wear on the spine which has opened the dark green of the cover o reveal the paper binding underneath. The Putnam seal is on the front and back of this book and the title "The Wide Wide World" Is stamped in gold on the spine with the number "1" appearing just after the ornament around the title.

The front and back covers have an ornate arabesque blind-stamped border. The Putnam seal is blind-stamped in the center of the front and back covers. The title is at the top of the spine and the publisher's name, Putnam, is at the bottom of the spine. Both are gilt-stamped.
